Early sketch Oceanbird

How it started

Oceanbird started as a concept for wind-powered shipping, and has evolved into a company for developing the wing sails. However, the partnerships formed during these early years, are still strong and continues in new forms.

Mother companies

Alfa Laval and Wallenius founded Oceanbird with the purpose was to reduce the carbon footprint from the marine industry. From Alfa Laval, we get production experience such as supply chain management and a global service network, and from Wallenius we get knowhow from ship design/newbuilding and vessel operation.
Thanks to our strong mother companies, we can act long-term with quality always top-of-mind.

Wallenius

Leading the way towards truly sustainable shipping

Wallenius with headquarter in Stockholm, has been a frontrunner in the global shipping industry since 1934. The company offers a complete and sustainable shipping service – from innovative design to ship management. With a long-term perspective and an integrated way of working, operational feedback is used to enhance performance and optimize the design of next generation of vessels.

Wallenius Marine developed the Oceanbird concept in co-operation with KTH Royal Institute of Technology and SSPA in the wPCC (wind Powered Car-Carrier) project, supported by the Swedish Transport Administration. Experts from the public and private sectors and academia worked together with the goal to achieve emission-free shipping. The project was active during 2019-2022, but its partners continue to work together in the EU project Orcelle Horizon.
